At tonight’s debate, listen closely for the dying gasp of the Republican establishment as Marco Rubio and John Kasich try once again to woo voters away from Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Will Kasich stick to his all-sunshine message? What can Rubio do? (He tried getting in the gutter with The Donald — it didn’t work.)
This debate is the last before Tuesday’s primaries (also known as the Ides of March primaries) when Republicans in Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and the Northern Mariana Islands will vote. Ohio and Florida are winner-take-all in delegates. Illinois is winner-take-most. John Kasich will make his last stand in the Buckeye State, and Marco Rubio will make his last stand in the Sunshine State. If both fail, the Republican Party will likely be left to chose between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, neither of whom is very popular with inside-the-Beltway types.
So tonight will be interesting. The death rattle of the GOP elite may be aired on CNN. That would be quite the exclusive.
We’ll be here following the action, of course. Let us know if you have questions in the comments. And enjoy.
